Damp earth and rain-soaked air arrive first, heavy and intimate, like the ground breathing too close to your skin. This scent belongs to Jane Prentiss after the line has already been crossed, when loneliness curdles into something hungry and the world starts to feel more welcoming once it begins to rot.
Petrichor – Wet stone and fresh rain, dense and clinging. The moment everything breaks open, when the earth exhales and refuses to stay clean.
Moss – Cool and green, spreading quietly across every surface. Life overtaking structure, growth that does not ask permission or wait its turn.
Mushrooms – Dark and earthy, soft with decay. Bodies returning to soil, boundaries dissolving into nourishment for something larger.
Bitter Orange – Sharp and unsettling, bright in the wrong way. A flash of humanity and sensation that only makes the descent feel more pronounced.
After it settles, there is the sense of Jane Prentiss no longer being alone in herself, comforted by the press of the earth, held too tightly, and finally at peace with being consumed rather than separated.
